Here's hoping you and yours are marking this Independence Day with something good on the grill, a refreshing beverage or two and at least a moment to quietly thank those statesmen and soldiers who put their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor on the line for all of us. And we pray for safe return to those who are still out there defending the precious notion on which this nation was founded. Taking it all for granted is too easy.
After tonight's fireworks have faded, there are a few notable musical opportunities to remind you of. Virginia's great keeper of the folk flame John McCutcheon will be in town at VCU's Singleton Performing Arts Center tomorrow (Thursday) night.
On Friday, one of last fall's National Folk Festival show stoppers, go go king Chuck Brown plays Fridays at Sunset on Brown's Island.
And Saturday, unless you're a closet member of the Soul Patrol and you're headed to Innsbrook to catch Idol Taylor Hicks, you'll want to be with us at VCU again for The Jackie Frost Ensemble.
And if you haven't checked out Richmond's new music hall, Toad's Place yet, Friday the 13th might be the perfect night, as Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder blow into town. I got to bring Ricky onstage 25 years ago just north of town at a now-defunct club called J.P.'s and I'm looking forward to the same privilege at Toad's. Getting old ain't so bad.
One more thing...if you're a true Country Gentlemen fan, you'll have to hit the road to Berryville in northern Virginia for the Gent's 50th Anniversary Reunion show on July 14th. Randy Waller, who's capably carrying on for Charlie, tells me that almost every one of the past members of this beloved band will be showing up for the tribute...it should be a fitting occasion to mark the huge contribution the Country Gentlemen have made to the music.
Stay well...TT

Hi Tim,
Long time no see! I am happy to see that you are still enjoying your music, and honoring those who make it! Yesterday I found out that Deveron is going to be coming to our farm for Bay Splash to do an interview about our 'green' cheese. Actually, it's farmstead raw milk goat cheese, but we are using 'green' practices in everything we do on the farm.
Our son, Cole, has just graduated from Christchurch High School and is 'over the pond' for the summer visiting the 'old countries'. He will go to VCU next year in Art Foundation. Amazing that he is a musician, an artist, and a writer, and wants to get into film. Funny, that 'the apple don't fall far from the tree', which brings me to ask about your children??
Hope to see you 'all' on the farm.
Fond Memories,
Rona Myers Sullivan
PS. Our cheese is now at Ellwood's.
